5 Tips to Prep Your Home for the Holidays

There’s nothing like being home for the holidays! Filled with traditions, family and friends, and lots of yummy food, the holiday season can give so much joy yet require a lot of prep work along the way. Get ready for the all the holiday merriment with these home prep tips!

Winter Gear Storage

Holiday visitors will be wearing their cold weather gear when they arrive at your home, so make sure you have planned ahead on where to store their heavy coats and winter boots. Clear up some space in your entryway hallway or closet to allow for their winter items in addition to any purses they might be toting along.

Stock the Pantry

If you are planning on inviting friends and family over for the holidays, you better have plenty of yummy food ready. The problem is that so many other people plan on hosting as well which makes for long lines and empty shelves at your local grocery store. Avoid this nightmare by stocking the pantry with cooking and baking staples that you know you might need ahead of time as well as plenty of snacks for picky eaters or young children.

In the Kitchen

In addition to stocking up on food, it is also a good idea to have your kitchen ready for all the holiday baking and cooking. Inspect your refrigerator and make room for large holiday essentials like casserole dishes and stuffed turkeys. Do a thorough clean on your microwave and oven and sharpen your knives so they will be ready to go for the holidays.

Freshen Up

If any of your visitors are out-of-towners, you will want to have your guest rooms ready for their stay. Go ahead and deep clean your guest rooms and bathrooms. Wash and fold your bed linens and towels and get plenty of extra rolls of toilet paper, and other guest essentials.

Safety

If young children will be visiting your home for the holidays, make sure your home is child-proof by covering electrical outlets, moving lamps and other breakable items away from table edges and blocking stairways to prevent hazardous falls.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, so knocking these items off your list now will keep things from getting too crazy and hectic. Ready to make memories and host guests in a home of your own? Contact one of our experienced loan officers today!
